Preparing for a wedding is exciting, but preparing your heart for marriage is what truly matters. In my conversation with Pastor Lorraine Blum, we shared that a strong marriage begins with a surrendered heart before God, not just a beautiful ceremony. When your heart is aligned with Him, you bring peace, love, and readiness into your future marriage.
Pastor Lorraine gently reminds us that marriage is a covenant, not just a celebration. That means healing past wounds, releasing fear, and choosing forgiveness before you say “I do.” Proverbs 4:23 (NLT) says, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life,” and this is the work that prepares you for lasting love.
So often, couples focus on the details of the day, but not the condition of their hearts. A healthy marriage starts long before the aisle—with honesty, humility, and a willingness to grow. When you invite God into your healing, He prepares you to love in a deeper, steadier way.
We also shared that heart preparation includes learning how to communicate, listen, and respond with grace. Ephesians 4:15 reminds us to “speak the truth in love,” which means your words should build, not break. These simple, daily choices create safety and trust that last far beyond the wedding day.
Another key is surrender. You cannot control your future spouse or every outcome, but you can trust God with your story. When you release fear and expectations to Him, He replaces them with peace and clarity.
And here is something beautiful to remember—you are first the Bride of Christ. Before you ever become an earthly bride or groom, you belong to Him. As you learn to love, trust, and follow Jesus, you are being prepared for both a heavenly relationship and an earthly one. The way you receive His love teaches you how to give love in marriage—with grace, patience, and faithfulness.
Take a quiet moment and ask the Lord, “What in my heart needs Your touch today?” Let Him lead you step by step. A strong, Christ-centered marriage begins with a heart fully given to Him.

Now, ask yourself this: Am I becoming the person God is calling me to be for my future spouse? True preparation is not about perfection, but about transformation through Christ. Take one step today—pray, reflect, and invite God into every part of your story.
