"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV)

This week, we are focusing on the powerful concept of understanding your personal narrative and introducing you to the importance of journaling.

Why is understanding your story and journaling so important?

Your story is unique, including the good, the bad and the ugly, shaped by your experiences, choices, and God's hand in your life. Yes, God can take what was meant to kill, steal or destroy you (John 10:10) and turn it into good Romans 8:28 NLT.

  • It brings about self-awareness: Journaling allows you to explore your thoughts and feelings, leading to a deeper understanding of who you are and how you've been shaped.
  • Healing: Writing about your experiences provides a way to process emotions and heal from past wounds.
  • Growth: Keeping a journal helps you track your journey, recognize patterns, and celebrate your progress.

How do you start?

Start by journaling your thoughts to see what you are thinking. You will also document your progress. Use the tips, strategies, and prompts provided to guide your writing. This practice will help you understand and appreciate the unique narrative God has written in your life, equipping you for your purpose.

  • Be Honest: Write sincerely about your thoughts and feelings. Honesty is essential for self-discovery and healing.
  • Consistency: Dedicate regular time each day or week to journal. Consistency helps build a habit and ensures you stay engaged with your narrative.
  • Reflect: Periodically review what you've written. Look for themes, insights, and areas where God is at work in your life.

So, grab yourself a latte or reheat your tea, find a quiet, comfy spot and take out your Bible, pen and journal. Say a prayer and praise God from your heart. Wait and listen for His small, still voice for guidance. Use the tips, strategies, and prompts provided to guide your writing.

Here are a few journal prompts to help:

  1. What significant events have shaped who you are today?
  2. How has your temperament influenced your life story? Reflect on your strengths and areas for growth.
  3. What patterns do you notice in your life, and how do they align with your purpose and God's plan for you?
