Getting Back to Your Roots: The Path God Created Just for You

I’ve been reflecting lately on what it means to “get back to my roots.” Not the roots of where I was born or how I was raised, but the roots of who I am in Christ — the path He set me on long ago.

Somewhere along the way, I realized something powerful: God actually wants me to be happy, fulfilled, and walking in my gifting. He delights in me. He delights in you. And yet, like so many of us, I’ve carried regrets. Memories of choices I wish I had made differently. Paths I took that led to dead ends.

Here’s the truth: regrets are not from God. The enemy whispers regret to keep us stuck in the past, while God whispers love to invite us back onto His path. The past is in the past — until we let it define our future. But God says, “Arise. Return to the path I’ve created for you. The one where joy, purpose, and peace are found in Me.”

3 Signs You May Be on the Wrong Path

  1. You feel restless and unfulfilled.
When we’re not aligned with God’s plan, nothing seems to satisfy for long. We continue to strive, but peace seems far away.
  2. You’re weighed down by regret instead of lifted by hope.
God doesn’t remind us of our failures to shame us. He calls us to repent and move forward in freedom. If your thoughts are heavy with guilt, it’s a sign you’ve wandered off His path.
  3. You stop hearing God’s gentle nudges.
When you silence your prayer life, avoid His Word, or ignore wise counsel, it’s easy to drift. God is always speaking, but are you listening?

Use your words to say this out loud:

I do believe God has created a path of joy, purpose, and fulfillment for me to walk in.

I don’t believe my regrets define me or disqualify me from God’s love.

Pray this out loud:

Father, thank You for creating a path just for me — one filled with joy, peace, and purpose. Forgive me for the times I’ve wandered onto my own way. Help me to recognize when I’ve strayed from Your voice, and give me courage to turn back. Teach me to lay down regrets at the foot of the cross and to rise up, listening to the One who loves me and delights in me. Lead me back to my roots — back to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Friend, if you feel lost, weighed down, or restless, know this: God is waiting for you. He isn’t replaying your mistakes — He’s whispering, “Come back. Walk with Me. I have more for you.”

Your past is part of your story, but it’s not the whole story. The root of who you are is found in Christ. And when you return to that path, you’ll find yourself not only walking in your gifting — but walking in His delight.

Put faith into action:
