If you're anything like the women I serve, you often carry the weight of everyone’s needs—while feeling guilty if you dare to rest. There’s always something that needs your attention, someone to care for, or a task unfinished. But what if I told you that rest isn't a reward for productivity—it's a command rooted in God’s heart for you?

Rest is not laziness. It’s not indulgence. Rest is sacred.
And it’s modeled by the One who created time itself.

In Genesis, we see God create the world in six days—and on the seventh, He rested. Not because He was tired, but because He was setting the rhythm for humanity. A rhythm of work and worship. Of effort and exhale.

Jesus, too, invites us into this rhythm of rest.
In Matthew 11:28–30 (NLT), He says:
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest... Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

You don’t need to earn rest—you need to receive it.

Here are a few simple ways you can practice sacred pauses:

  • Quiet Mornings with God: Start your day with Scripture and silence—even just 10 minutes of stillness before the noise begins.
  • Daily Walks with Purpose: Step outside, breathe deeply, and use the time to reconnect with your Creator.
  • Tech-Free Time Blocks: Protect a pocket of your day with no screens. Let your mind and soul breathe.
  • Plan a Sacred Saturday: Choose one Saturday each month where you don’t plan anything but rest. Light candles, make tea, journal, and worship at your own pace.

And when possible, consider hosting a mini retreat at home. You don’t need fancy plans—just create space. The Holy Spirit will fill it.

The world will keep spinning. But your soul?
It needs "the pause."

So, give yourself permission to slow down.
Honor God by embracing the gift of rest.
You are not falling behind—you are falling into the arms of the One who holds all things together.

With grace for today and hope for tomorrow,
keep listening to His voice, resting in His presence,
and walking gently in the rhythm of His love.

You are seen. You are held. You are never alone.

With love,
Dr. Deborah
