Before Summer Slips Away

There is something about August that gently whispers, "Slow down... summer won't last forever."

The days are still warm, but the evenings begin to hint that another season is on the horizon. School supplies start filling the store shelves, calendars begin to fill again, and before we know it, the pace of life starts to quicken.

Before that happens, I'd like to invite you to pause for just a moment.

Take a deep breath.

Before summer slips away, don't let its greatest gifts pass by unnoticed.

Ephesians 5:15–16 reminds us: "Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity."

Those opportunities aren't always found in the big vacations or elaborate plans. More often, they're hidden in the ordinary moments God places right in front of us.

A conversation around the dinner table.

A walk through the neighborhood.

An evening sitting on the porch.

Watching your grandchildren chase fireflies.

Holding your spouse's hand while the sun sets.

These simple moments often become the memories our hearts treasure most.

We can become so busy planning the next thing that we miss the beauty of what God has already given us today.

As I reflect on summer, I'm reminded that some of the sweetest moments in my own life haven't happened on a stage or during a special event. They've happened around an ordinary table with an open Bible, a warm cup nearby, and a heart that simply wanted to meet with the Lord.

God has a wonderful way of meeting us in ordinary places.

Perhaps before summer ends, you could intentionally create one more meaningful moment.

Share one more meal together without distractions.

Turn off the television.

Set the phone aside.

Ask someone you love, "How is your heart today?"

Pray together before you leave the table.

Take one more evening walk and thank God for His creation.

Write a handwritten note of encouragement to someone who has blessed your life.

None of these things cost very much, but they have the potential to leave a lasting imprint on someone's heart.

Our relationships are built one conversation at a time.

Our marriages grow one act of kindness at a time.

Our faith deepens one quiet moment with Jesus at a time.

As this season comes to a close, perhaps the greatest question we can ask ourselves isn't, "What else do I need to accomplish?"

Instead, ask:

Who is God inviting me to gather around the table with?

Where is He asking me to slow down and notice His blessings?

What memory is still waiting to be made?

Summer will eventually give way to autumn, just as every season of life changes. But the love we give, the prayers we pray, and the time we invest in those God has entrusted to us will continue to bear fruit long after the warm days have passed.

Before summer slips away, don't miss one last opportunity to gather around the table, open God's Word, share your heart, and thank Him for the gift of this season.

May your remaining summer days be filled with His peace, His presence, and the people He has lovingly placed in your life.
